Band 7+ sample answer

An app I use very often is a language-learning app that I've been using to improve my vocabulary. I use it almost every day, usually on the train or while I'm waiting for my coffee.

I found it through a friend, who's learning Spanish with it. She kept showing me her "streak", which is the number of days in a row she'd practised, and she was so proud of it that I decided to try it myself, mainly to build my English vocabulary for my test.

I mostly use it for about ten minutes a day. It gives you short, bite-sized lessons with new words and phrases, and then it tests you on them with different kinds of exercises, like matching words to pictures, filling in gaps and listening and repeating. It also brings back words you've forgotten at just the right time, which really helps them stick.

There are a few reasons I use it so often. First, it's very user-friendly and the lessons are short, so it's easy to fit into a busy day. I don't need to find an hour to study; I can do it in small gaps. Second, the streak feature is surprisingly motivating. I'm now on more than two hundred days, and I really don't want to break it! And finally, I can actually see my progress, because it shows how many words I've learned. I'd definitely recommend it, although I'd also say it's a supplement rather than a replacement for proper practice with real people.

About 252 words, or roughly 2 minutes at a natural speaking pace.

Why this answer works: it covers every bullet point, tells a short story with specific details (names, places, numbers), uses a range of tenses, and finishes with the "explain" point, which is where you show your best vocabulary.
