How to use the flashcards
- Type the missing word and press Enter (or Check). If you don't know it, press Show answer, and the card comes back later in the session.
- Listen to the full sentence and say it out loud. Saying collocations helps them stick.
- Come back daily. Each session gives you the cards that are due, plus up to 10 new ones.
Why collocations matter for tests
- PTE Reading & Writing Fill in the Blanks often tests word partnerships: you need the word that goes with its neighbours, not just one with the right meaning.
- IELTS Lexical Resource rewards "less common lexical items" and accurate collocation. Errors like do a mistake lower your band.
- Write from Dictation and Repeat Sentence are easier when you hear phrases as chunks.
Unofficial practice. We wrote these questions to match the official PTE Academic task types and timings. They are not real exam questions, and points shown are practice feedback, not a PTE score. For an official estimate, use Pearson's scored practice tests.
Frequently asked questions
What is a collocation?
Words that naturally go together, like make a decision (not do a decision) or heavy traffic (not big traffic). Using them correctly makes your English sound natural and helps in PTE Fill in the Blanks and IELTS Lexical Resource.
How does the spaced repetition work?
Each card moves up a box when you get it right and comes back after 1, 3, 7, 14 and then 30 days. Get it wrong and it goes back to the start and appears again in the same session. Your progress is saved only if you turn it on, and only in your browser.
