1. Choose your path
- π¬ I want better everyday EnglishTake the 10-minute level test, then follow the Complete English Course from beginner (A1) to intermediate (B1), week by week.
- π― I'm preparing for a testPTE, IELTS or OET: start with a full mock test to see your level, then practise the task types that cost you the most points.
- π¦πΊ I live in or am moving to AustraliaAussie slang, what people really mean, workplace English and the English scores you need for a visa.
Not sure? Start with today's free practice. It takes about 10 minutes and gives you a taste of everything.
2. Practise a little every day
- Today has a new set every day at midnight (your local time): a 5-question quiz, a phrase of the day, today's Listening Room episode, a speaking prompt and today's PTE and IELTS practice. Everyone gets the same set, so you can compare with friends.
- The Listening Room is like a podcast you can read along with. Mel and Josh talk about real life. Listen at slow or normal speed, follow the highlighted transcript, take the quiz, then shadow them line by line.
- Daily practice gives you 10 new PTE questions a day and keeps your streak.
Ten minutes a day works better than three hours once a week.
3. How tests and practice are marked
- Reading, listening and most question types are marked instantly, using the same rules as the real test where those rules are published.
- Writing gets an estimated score for each criterion from our essay checkers, with tips on what to fix.
- Speaking is timed like the real test. You can record yourself and listen back, and some tasks check your words with your browser's speech recognition. Recordings stay on your device.
- All practice scores are estimates. They help you see progress, but only the official test gives a real score. Read how our practice tests are marked for the details and limits.
4. Your progress is saved on your device
There are no accounts. Instead, My progress keeps a record of your tests, lessons, listening, speaking and writing, saved only in your browser on this device. Nothing is sent to us.
- See your scores over time, your streak and what to practise next.
- Download a PDF report to share with a teacher, or a backup file to keep it safe.
- Using a new phone or computer? Restore your backup there.
- Safari (iPhone, iPad and Mac) can delete saved data after 7 days without a visit, so download a backup every week or two.
5. Certificates
When you finish a course level or a workplace pack and pass its test, you can download a free practice certificate with your name on it. It shows the work you've done. It is a practice certificate, not an official qualification or test result.
6. Getting around
- Search: tap π at the top of any page and type what you need, like "IELTS essay", "PTE 65" or "phrasal verbs".
- The top strip has today's practice, the Listening Room and the most popular pages.
- The menu groups everything: Learn English, Aussie & Work, PTE, IELTS, other tests and free tools.
- On a phone, the bar at the bottom takes you to practice, tools, your progress, lessons and search.
- Install it like an app: on Android, open the Chrome menu and choose Install app. On iPhone, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. More help.
- Voices: all audio uses the voices on your device. You can choose a different voice if one sounds better.
- Two editions: this is the Australian edition, with visa scores, Aussie slang and local tips. Learners elsewhere can use the global edition, which is the same free service without the Australia-only pages.

Frequently asked questions
Is English Coaching really free?
Yes. Every lesson, practice test, tool and certificate is free. There's no sign-up, no account and no payment. The site is paid for by ads and by optional links to paid tutoring, which are always marked.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There are no accounts. Your progress is saved in your browser on your own device, never on our servers.
Are the practice test scores official?
No. Practice scores are estimates to help you prepare. Only the official test (Pearson for PTE, the IELTS partners, OET and so on) can give you a real score.
Where should I start?
If you want to improve your general English, take the free level test, then start the Complete English Course at your level. If you're preparing for a test, pick your test and try a full mock test to see where you are.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. Everything works in your phone's browser, and you can add the site to your home screen like an app.
Will I lose my progress?
Your progress stays in your browser on this device. Clearing your browsing data or using a private window removes it, and Safari can delete it after 7 days without a visit. Download a backup from My progress now and then.
