Model essay (232 words)
Artificial intelligence is changing the way many industries operate, and there is considerable debate about its effect on employment. Some predict mass job losses, while others believe AI will create more work than it removes. In my view, AI is likely to create more jobs overall, but many workers will need support to adapt.
Those who are optimistic point to history. Earlier technologies, such as computers and the internet, replaced some roles but created entirely new industries. Similarly, AI is already generating demand for data specialists, software developers and people who train and check AI systems. It can also make businesses more productive, which often leads to growth and further hiring.
However, critics argue that AI is different because it can perform tasks that previously required human judgement, such as writing reports or analysing images. As a result, jobs in areas like customer service and administration may decline quickly. Workers who lose these roles may not have the skills needed for the new jobs being created.
Therefore, the key challenge is not the total number of jobs but the transition. Governments and employers should invest in retraining programs and help workers develop skills that complement AI, such as problem-solving and communication.
In conclusion, although AI will probably create more jobs than it destroys, the benefits will only be shared fairly if workers receive the training they need to move into new roles.
