The day before
- Re-read your booking confirmation: test centre address, time and ID requirements.
- Check your ID is valid, original and exactly matches the name on your booking. For most people this means a passport.
- Plan your route and parking, and allow for traffic.
- Get a proper night's sleep. No all-night cramming.
On the day
- Arrive early. Your confirmation says how early (often about 30 minutes).
- Eat something and drink some water beforehand.
- Expect security checks: photos, a signature and sometimes a palm-vein scan.
- Your personal items go in a locker. You can't take phones, watches or notes into the room.
In the test room
- Check your headset. Put it on properly, with the microphone near your chin, not directly in front of your mouth.
- Don't be put off by other people speaking. Test takers start at different times, so you'll hear others. Focus on your own screen.
- Use the erasable noteboard for listening notes and essay planning.
- If something's wrong with your headset, computer or noteboard, raise your hand straight away.
After the test
Results usually arrive within a few days by email and in your myPTE account. If you need to send scores to an institution or Home Affairs, follow Pearson's official instructions.
Rules can change, and test centres may differ. Your booking confirmation and Pearson's test day page are the final word.
