Model answer: Part 2: long turn
Describe a skill you would like to learn. You should say: what the skill is, why you want to learn it, how you would learn it, and explain how this skill would help you. (1 minute to prepare, up to 2 minutes to speak.)
One skill I'd really love to learn is how to cook properly, I mean not just basic meals but proper dishes from different countries. At the moment I can make a few simple things like pasta and fried rice, but that's about it.
The main reason I want to learn is that I've been eating far too much takeaway since I moved out of my parents' place, and it's expensive and not very healthy. I'd also love to be able to invite friends over and cook something impressive for them.
I think the best way to learn would be a combination of things. There's a community college near me that runs short evening courses, so I'd probably start with one of those to learn the basic techniques, like how to use a knife properly. After that I'd practise at home with online videos, and maybe ask my mum to teach me some of the dishes I grew up with.
I think it would help me in lots of ways. Obviously I'd save money and eat better, but it would also be a good way to relax after work. And honestly, I think being able to cook a good meal for people is a really nice way to bring people together.
